We at French’s Point are pleasantly surprised that Maine yesterday approved same-sex in a historic vote that was the first time voters have approved same-sex marriage in the United States. We support same-sex marriage and welcome same-sex couples at French’s Point.
The fight to approve same-sex marriage in Maine has been long and tumultuous, with a law approving it overturned by voters in 2009 and a fervent and well-funded opposition this last time around. The historic Maine vote was part of other recent political gains for gay equality, with Wisconsin electing the country’s first openly lesbian senator, Democrat Tammy Baldwin, and President Obama becoming the first president to openly support same-sex marriage and be re-elected.
Maine and Maryland both approved same-sex marriage yesterday, and Maine will probably begin granting marriage licenses to same-sex couples in December. We salute Maine for taking the lead on this important issue of equality. We are a four season venue and can plan a wedding in as little as 6 weeks!
